RE: Tom Tom 125 good/bad??

We had a TomTom and tried to enter a address like 123n45w "something" street and it wouldn't let us mix numbers with letters. We exchanged it for a Garmin and have no problems.

RE: New Guy

We enjoy fulltiming in a 5th wheel. We think they are homier & have more living room, but if we were richer we would consider a class A. The class C's just don't seem to have the room to fulltime. You will be carrying all your worldly goods with you since this is your home. We wish you luck with whatever you decide. We are also doggy lovers, & travel with two 85 pound goldent retrievers. They love their home & let us have a little space for ourselves. Good luck

RE: First workamping job - is this usual?

We got out of workcamping for just those kind of deals. We felt it was equivelent to slave labor. You can get a very nice rv spot at a very nice resort for less money than they are making you pay. We did some research & decided to take seasonal employment for a company to supplement our income, & we are very much happier than we were when we were doing slave labor for resorts while they were padding their pockets. We didn't like the way we were made to feel like second class when we worked for the resorts either. Never again...!!!

RE: Economy Downturn

Only you know what you can afford, & what will make you happy. I can tell you we gave up our careers & a home 4 years ago. We don't have the escape fund many talk about on this site, & we don't own the best 5th wheel out there, but we own what we have, & we have everything we need in a 32ft 5th wheel. This is our home & we are happier than we ever were in a big house & stressful jobs to deal with. We don't live high on the hog, or shop a lot, but we do ride bikes, hike, & meet many interesting people who also came to their senses & realized they didn't need a big home & lots of stuff to be happy (that's the American Fantacy). This is the best decision we ever made. We pick up part time jobs to supplement our income. We've talked to people who worry if they have only $4,000 a month retirement. I can tell you we have less than $2,000 a month income & we are doing fine. We travel a couple times a year, then find an area to stay put. We are seeing the United States on a poor mans budget. I couldn't be happier!!! You just have to decide what's right for you.

RE: water pressure

Low pressure on both hot and cold sides. I took the aerator out completely and no change. I guess I'll just change it.

water pressure

I have a problem with water pressure at the kitchen sink. Pressure at all other sources is fine, but at the kitchen faucet it is very bad. I took the faucet apart and saw nothing unusual. Any thoughts on this subject?

RE: Ladder bike rack

I have carried two adult bikes on a ladder rack for three years of fulltiming with no problems. I secure the rack to the ladder with a couple of straps, then secure the bikes to the rack with as many straps as it takes to keep them from rattling around. If my ladder will hold 230 pounds of me, it should hold 100 pounds of bikes.

Sticky slide

We are fulltimers and have been sitting for about five months. I know I should have done it before but I finally decided to run the slides in and out. Two of them worked fine but the large slide with the dinette and couch had trouble coming in. I had to jockey it in and out several times before it would move. It seems the bottom of the slide starts in and then the top part binds, but if I manually pull on it it moves. Eventually I can get it to come in. Has anyone had this problem and what adjustment did you make? We have a 05 Everest 323k. Thanks

RE: Full Timing in Alaska

In past times people survived without furnaces, or electricity!! We've fulltimed in below zero weather & have done fine. I don't understand the doomsayors who think you can't do this. I'm so grateful we've gotten over the narrow thinking that we need a home with all the amenities to be happy. We are much happier having our home on wheels & we're blessed to have a furnace, running water, indoor bathroom etc.. which our forebearers didn't have. I'm so grateful we sold our home in 2005. I feel blessed to have what we can afford & not be stressed in a home with upkeep & bills constantly piling in. We aren't missing anything. In fact I think this is the best lifestyle choice!!

RE: Young Workamper?

We have workcamped & have seen campgrounds hire young people to help out. I think you should go to the campgrounds & inquire if they could use you. It's showing great initiative to think outside the box about the way you live. Having an apartment or home is not the only ultimate way to live. Our kids had a hard time applying themselves to studying in College when they lived too closely to other kids. The influence to have fun is very great. Learning how a business is run would be great experience for you, & the campground lifestyle is great. Follow your instincts & you will do great...good luck!!

RE: Valve Handle hard to pull?

With a empty tank, pour a gallon of vegetable oil in with a gallon of water. Work the valve back and forth several times til the mixture is gone. Works for me. Lasts a couple months fulltiming.

RE: Dodge Ram 3500

If you have the 4.1 rear end in it, it is rated for 2000# more then the smaller ratio.

RE: Cost to Full-ime: What goes up, what goes down?

We've been fulltiming for 3 1/2 years. When we are traveling we spend about $4000 a month. We do great on $1800 a month when we sit still. When we travel our campground fees run about $32-$45 a night. The traveling gas expense is way up there, & we spend more on tourist attractions & eating out. Monthly fees run around $500-$650, but we've seen many places up to $850 a month. We have GMC fulltimers insurance which costs us about $2,000 a year. We were told regular insurance wouldn't cover us if we are living & traveling in an rv. We have satellite t.v., cell phones, & an air card for internet. We love doing things & going out to eat just like we always did. This isn't the cheapest way to live, but I sure think it is a wonderful way to live. I sure wouldn't want to spend my golden years sitting in one spot. Worrying about spending all our money. We love living this way.

RE: Black Tank Flush

I had the same problem with mine. I took it to the dealer. He filled the tank with clean water, added sensor cleaner and let it sit for a day. It worked after that.

RE: Full-Timing Coach?

We've been fulltiming in an Everest for over 3 years. It's beautiful & comfortable. We haven't had any problems. We've been in Colorado in 2 blizzards & below zero weather, & Florida, & Arizona in 100 degree temps. Our Everest keeps us warm or cool as needed. We don't even have the two air conditioners, but it seemed to us that quite a few campgrounds can't even accomodate many campers running two air conditioners at one time anyway. This unit was less than $40,000 & is great. You could buy two or three of these Everests for the price of the high line 5th wheels, & this unit pulls great with a 1 ton diesel truck. Many of those supposed fulltime units can't safely be pulled with a 1 ton truck even if the salesman swears on a bible they can. I would recommend the Everest to anyone.

RE: Why Didn't You....Part II....

We played by all the rules for over 30 years...careers, children, home, yard upkeep, 2 week vacations that left us worn out. For us fulltiming is freedom, & simplicity. We can grow old in our 5th wheel easier than in a large home to care for. We are now able to slow down & experience every new adventure. We feel more relaxed than we ever did while striving for the illusive American Dream. I totally believe this is truly our American Dream rather than the career & fancy house. We were always trying to prove ourselves. Now we are truly living. We would never give this up to hassle with America's ideal of the middle class dream again. Finally we are enjoying each day we are given on earth.

RE: Filing Taxes While Work-Camping

We are traveling, working fulltimers. We file a state income tax in whatever state we work in. We do it online. We haven't had any problems & it's not that complicated. If you want to visit & work in a certain state just do it...life is short. I hope you don't miss out on visiting a state over fear of taxes. We personally think California is a wonderful, beautiful state as do many millions of other people. We do not stay away from any state over paying our fair share of taxes. All states get the taxes they need in one way or another.

RE: So you still want ot go fulltime? Are you nuts?

We kept up a nice home for 30 years. Our children grew up & we really don't get why we would ever need a house again. If the time comes that we can't move our 5th wheel, we'll just park it in a place we want to be. We have all the amenities of a home. We aren't rich, & we do work even though we are fulltimers, but we stress less about working & take a couple months each year to just travel. By far this is cheaper & more fun than worrying about having lots of stuff, & a great house to show off. We just aren't going to worry about tomorrow. We're living today....We finally learned we don't need lots of things to enjoy each day. We would never go back to the stress of careers, & a large home to manage. We think that's the "crazy life," not what we are doing. We just want to keep it simple now. We are in our late 50's & no longer need to impress anyone. Our grandchildren love having us around because we keep them active. That's a lot cheaper than shopping, & much more fun.

RE: Have Chosen SD as Resident State: Who do you like for mail?

We've been with America's Mailbox in Rapid City for 3 years. They've always been professional & helpful. We chose them 3 years ago because they were cheaper than the other's & the owner is retired law enforcement so we thought he'd be honest. They have helped us register a new vehicle, get absentee ballets to vote, & sent out mail at a moments notice anywhere we are. It's very reasonable for us to register our vehicles in Pennington County. I would think they all offer these services.

fresh water pump

My pump stays on. I have ruled out a bad pump, air in the lines and can't find a leak. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks.
